Nothing to See Here
No, seriously, there's nothing to see here. Scott Boras held a press conference from his Newport Beach, CA at 9 pm EST to announce, essentially, that unless the Red Sox pony up a $100 million contract over the next 6 years, Matsuzaka will go back to Japan and pitch. There's really nothing new here. We've known for some time that Boras is really trying to sell the whole "this is a national treasure" schtick, but to put these kinds of numbers to it makes the whole ordeal a bit unreal. There's no way the Sox can justify paying almost $17 million over 6 years to a pitcher who's never even been to Massachussetts.To make sure their position is clear, the Red Sox are reportedly preparing to hold their own press conference later this evening.
